20 Ways to Lose 10 Pounds!

  1. Drinking eight or more glasses of water each day helps burn fat.  According to a recent study, dieters who drank plenty of water lost more weight than non water guzzling dieters.  Probably because sodas and juices have about 500 calories per serving!
  2. Avoid packed foods – anything that comes in a bag, box, can, or carton – and stick to fresh ingredients. 
  3. Eliminate alcoholic beverages – which are packed full of empty calories – and you will see the numbers on the scale get smaller.
  4. Take short walking breaks – two minutes out of every thirty is a goo place to start.
  5. Studies show that people who sleep less than seven hours a night eat more than people who get lots of rest.
  6. Find a partner; you are more likely to exercise if you have a bit of accountability and encouragement.
  7. Fill two-thirds of your plate with vegetables.  They are more nutritious and less calorie dense than any other type of food.
  8. A recent study showed that eating one grapefruit each day helped 58% of test subjects lose weight.
  9. When grocery shopping, pay with cash.  Shoppers who use credit/debit cards are more likely to succumb to impulse buying (and our impulses usually tend toward fatty snack foods).
  10. Go scent-free.  A recent study found that scented cosmetics make us crave the foods they remind us of. 
  11. Learn to knit.  Or do a crossword puzzle.  Just do something!  Keeping your hands busy can distract you from grazing.
  12. A lot of people find that having a particular goal in mind motivates them more.  Sign up for a race and you’ll find yourself wanting to train regularly.
  13. Gather some friends and join a sports league.  Slow pitch softball?  Beach volleyball?  The combination of doing something fun and hanging with your friends means you will probably stick with it.  
  14. Go spicy!  A recent study found that cayenne pepper jolts your metabolism.
  15. Split your normal portion of any given food in two.  Save the other half for later.  You’ll be surprised to learn just how little it takes to actually fill you up.
  16. Leave your car in the garage.  Walking or biking to work will burn calories but won’t burn gas.
  17. People have found weight loss success by drinking more milk.  Apparently the calcium in low-fat dairy products helps zap extra pounds.
  18. Add a few servings of yogurt to your day.  A study that analyzed which foods helped maintain a healthy weight recommends yogurt as one of the best food options for weight loss hopefuls.
  19. Which food was the worst?  Potato chips can add pounds faster than you can imagine!
  20. Get creative!  Having a way to express yourself can help boost self-esteem.  When you feel better about yourself, you won’t succumb to depression-induced snacking.  Plus, if you are up to your elbows in creativity, you won’t even be able to eat!
